The Swedish Mechanics Days

10-12 June, 2026

Welcome to Lund!

The Swedish Mechanics Days 2026 (SMD 2026) is the 29:th in a series of biannual conferences that have been arranged by the Swedish National Committee for Theoretical and Applied Mechanics since 1974. SMD 2026 provides an excellent opportunity for both senior researchers and PhD students to meet, exchange ideas and present ongoing research. Please save the date for SMD 2026 which will take place in Lund on 10-12 June 2026.

We look forward to three days of stimulating presentations and discussion. This year, the traditional Odqvist lecture will be presented by Staffan Lundström of Luleå Technical University. Plenary lectures will be given by Elena Gutierrez Farewik, Stefan Lindström and Clara M. Velte.

In connection with the Swedish Mechancis Days 2026, the National Committee announces five awards for PhD students:

  • The Alleima award in Mechanics of Materials
  • The GKN aerospace award in Mechanics
  • The LKAB award in Mechanics
  • The SAAB award in Mechanics and Materials technology for aeronautical applications
  • The Tetra Pak award in Computational Fluid Dynamics

The awards amount to 20 000 SEK each. Candidates are to submit their applications by April 12.  Instructions on how to apply are found here.
